Before a tsunami wiped out Jiqulillo in 1992, it was a playground for Nicaragua's rich and famous. Now it's a little known surf destination whose native residents eek out a living fishing all night and sleeping all day. At night the boats look like dim stars on the horizon.
This beach is fantastic. The waves were amazing (while we were there). But the weather was hot. It was so hot we had a lot of trouble sleeping. There was no escape from it.
This picture of Lisa was taken on our way from the surf camp into town to buy rum and limes. Flor de Cana rum is about 130 Cordobas or $6US. It's delicious stuff.
Welcome to Bits of Nicaragua. Lisa Stary and I traveled to Nicaragua on November 11, 2009. We returned on December 22nd. This blog is a repository for our photos, thoughts, and stories. Enjoy!
